WFM FAQs
Moonlighting?
We have lots of moonlighting options! PGY-2s can begin moonlighting internally in our after-hours clinic while on their training licensed. Once fully licensed, residents have many options including rural ERs. Moonlighting is coordinated by a designated PGY-3 resident.
Will I be prepared when I graduate?
Absolutely. Graduates consistently report how well prepared they are for the practice of their choice. When compared to graduates of other programs, our annual graduate survey reveals a higher degree of comfort with full-spectrum practice.
Who “fits” at Waco?
If you are hard-working and both academically and service-oriented, you’re a fit. Our culture fits physicians that are on a mission to make a difference in patients’ lives.
I plan to do outpatient only in the future. Is that okay?
Definitely. You need a broad training with extensive experience to be a fabulous outpatient physician. You’ll get that here! We say our goal is to graduate a pluripotent stem cell, ready to differentiate into the practice of your choice.
What is the city of Waco like?
Waco is a great mid-size town with a blooming downtown scene, one of the largest municipal parks in the country with extensive hiking and mountain biking trails, watersports, college-town amenities, great churches, and a low cost of living.
What do you think about couples at the program?
Love them!
How does maternity, paternity, or family leave work?
We follow the recent ABFM guidelines for family leave. In short, we structure a specialized rotation to maximize your paid leave without impacting your residency training.
Is the program family-friendly?
100% yes! We love families—and Waco is a great town to raise a family.
