Steps to Partner with WFM – Institute
1. Submit a project proposal
Send a project proposal summary (link to a document) to our Research Coordinator, Alondra Castillo (Alondra.Castillo@wacofamilymedicine.org)
2. Apply to become a WFM Research Associate
If your project aligns with our research priorities, you will be invited to apply to become a Waco Family Medicine Research Associate [Add link to Research Associate application].
3. Identify a WFM Research Partner
WFM requires you to partner with a WFM staff member to conduct research. We will assist you to identify a WFM co-investigator. Your WFM partner will help navigate the project approval process by working collaboratively to adapt the study design to better suit our facility, acting as a liaison with patient recruitment (if applicable), and generating manuscripts for publication.
4. Submit a detailed Project Plan
After you have your project summary approved, have become a Research Associate, and have a faculty partner, you must submit a detailed Project Plan [link to project plan doc download] that also includes specific information about protection of patient privacy (HIPAA compliance) and needed involvement of our IT department. The project plan will be reviewed by our Research Committee and a HIPAA compliance sub-committee.
Timeline
The project approval process may require several months depending on the complexity of the process and grant involvment. Our Research Committee does not normally meet in the summer, so plan accordingly for any grant applications that are due summer/early fall.
